Get your new WHS Updates today, including Power Pack 3 !!

The new updates include :

KB973686  XML Core Services 6 SP2
KB973687  WS2003  Update
KB073688  XML Core Services 4 SP2
KB968349  WHS Power Pack 3
KB976098  WS2003 Update

It’s just a click to force the update – on your WHS Console ‘Settings’ page, or you can wait for the auto update.

Enjoy the new Power Pack 3 features.  Personally I like the auto transfer of my Recorded TV to the WHS storage pool from my MCE machine.

Now my MCE will be upgraded to a new Tranquil ION Dual Core (incl PCIex tuners) with a SS HDD – no need for mass storage any more, and the benefit of 100% silence.  The perfect world (at least MCE + WHS) draws nearer.

More on the T2ION-W7 MCE later in November.

Power Pack 3 improves the Windows Home Server experience with Windows 7 and Windows Media Center by providing new features like: backup and restore of computers running Windows 7, Windows 7 Libraries integration, enhancements for Windows Media Center, and better support for net book computers.
Power Pack 3 will enable the most optimal experience for Windows 7 users on a Windows Home Server network.

Units shipped from early next week will have PP3 pre-installed.

Also, Tranquil will release new downloadable ‘server backup’ images for existing clients, so that if existing servers need to be re-imaged, they can be with the latest PP3 pre-installed.

“This immediate integration of PP3 into our UK factory built Home Servers continues to demonstrate our commitment to the popular Tranquil Home Server range”

Equipped with 2x 1.66GHz CPUs and 2x 512K cache !
(Hyper threading is supported, so look for 4x CPUs in Task manger)

TDP 13W (that’s the CPU and the North Bridge)

Integrated GMA 3150 graphics (based on the G31 core)
(Max Res’n 2048×1536)

The low TDP would suggest that, with suitable air flow, the D510 can be passively cooled as demonstrated by the fitting of the the heat sink as shown.

Intel Main Board + PineView

Coming very soon !NoNB

Where’s the North Bridge ?

The latest Intel mini-itx main board – the ‘D510M0’

Equipped with the very latest Intel Atom Dual Core D510 processor (2x 1.66GHz) and the Intel NM10 Express Chipset.

The key to the success of this platform will no doubt be improvements in overall performance, not just due to the 2x hyper threaded 1.66GHz CPUs – but due to the fact that the north bridge controller is on the SAME silicon as the CPUs !

Tranquil PC, an early tester of the D510Mo boards will be using this new board in numerous new PCs and Servers, including the new MiDASS series of Home Servers.  There is talk, that the board will also be made available on it’s own too.

Watch this space for further news on the great little main board !
We will be comparing various performance criteria against the  popular D945GCLF2, etc as well as bringing news of product launches.
